My Blogging Journey So Far

Becoming a blogger was not something I’d ever envisaged doing. It was a good friend of mine, Emma, who encouraged me to start my blogging journey and set up Wander Mum after I had my first daughter, Mrs T. She was five months old when I took the plunge and my blog went live.

Prior to hitting the publish button, I’d done a fair bit of research into setting up a blog. I came up with the name, chose WordPress as my publishing platform, found a host and decided it would have a travel slant. Other than that I was pretty clueless.

Over the years, Wander Mum has grown and opened so many doors for me. I’ve met some fantastic people along the way and I am very thankful for everything and everyone it has brought into my life. Who’d have thought that sitting down at my dining room table one January morning and writing my first blog post would lead to new friends and opportunities to travel.

Despite starting my website back in 2013, I’ve only properly blogged – with focus – over the past couple of years. Although Wander Mum was designed to focus on travel, my early writings covered a lot of general day to day issues. I occasionally read back some of my early posts and cringe! I think that’s a common trait! Back then I had no idea about SEO, google analytics, linkys or anything!! You could argue, I still don’t!

Blogging has been a journey of discovery. I continue to learn, grow and improve and I love that aspect. A couple of years ago I started engaging a lot more with other bloggers and found the brilliant BritMums network. Its founders, Susanna Scott and Jennifer Howze are an inspiration and so supportive of other bloggers. Connecting with other bloggers and those interested in travel has been incredibly enriching.

As a child I was always writing. I’d come up with stories on my mum’s typewriter, tapping away in the evening. If I made a mistake, out would come the Tipp-ex pen (remember that?). It was this passion which led me into journalism. What I love about blogging though is the freedom to write what I want when I want. There are no limits on word count and I don’t have get anyone else’s approval on the angle or content.

Most importantly, blogging has enabled me to help others. I am eternally grateful to my readers – some of whom have been with me from the rocky beginnings. It is a huge delight to see a lovely comment or have someone get in touch asking for advice. Ultimately, the reason I set up this blog was to inspire others to travel as a family. If I have helped just a little bit then that makes me hugely happy.

I know my blogging journey is only just beginning. I am learning so much all the time and the blog is constantly growing and evolving and breaking out further into different mediums such as YouTube. I’m looking forward to helping more families and providing more inspiration for many years to come. So stick with me and lets enjoy the journey together.

Wander Mum

I've always loved to travel so when my two daughters came along, I didn't stop. Travelling as a family can have its ups and downs but I love showing my children the world and helping others navigate travelling with children in tow.
