City Tripping #33

It has been a rather tumultuous week in the UK. The surprise referendum result which saw us vote to leave the EU sent shockwaves through the country. Waking up on Friday I was personally saddened by the decision and I do feel quite worried about what the future holds. The result has led to political, economical and constitutional uncertainty and revealed a rather divided country. To top it off, now England are out of the Euros! The day after the ‘brexit’ vote was a bit eerie with many people genuinely shocked and disappointed at the result and what it means for the country.

So what a joy it it was to go to BritMums Live on Saturday, mixing with open-minded, well-travelled, wonderful, inspiring bloggers including many who join the City Tripping linky. It was so fab to meet them in the flesh, chat, mingle and enjoy a drink or two together. You are the best!

It also meant I got to catch up with my City Tripping co-host, Cathy from MummyTravels. We figured out that despite being  in contact several times week over email, we have only ever met twice which is crazy!

But most importantly, Cathy was the WINNER of the best family travel blog at the BritMums Brilliance in Blogging awards! Huge congratulations! It was a tough category and well done to all the finalists. I am so pleased for her. I am sure you would agree, Cathy is an inspiration and incredibly deserving of this award.

Onto the linky then…our favourites from last week are below. Next week, in addition to our favourite posts, we will be introducing a new shout out (and back link) to the blogger who has spread the linky love and commented the most…so don’t hold back!

What Is City Tripping?

City Tripping is the place to come and link up your city-related travel posts. We want to find out the best of things to do and see in the city, any city in the world, whether you are travelling as a family, a couple or with friends or it’s your home turf. It could be a day out, a review of an attraction, long weekend or sharing your best insider info and hidden gems – as long as it is city-related travel.

How To Join In

– Link up one post – old or new.

– Please add the City Tripping badge to the bottom of the post or link back to either Mummytravels.com or Wandermum.co.uk – the badge code is below

– Posts must be about your travel experiences in a city – any city, from reviews of days out to longer breaks.

– Please share the linky love and comment on the two hosts’ linked posts and at least two others which take your fancy, using #citytripping so everyone knows where you’re visiting from

– Tweet us your links @wander_mum and @mummytravels along with the #citytripping hashtag and we will retweet to our followers

– We’ll be sharing your posts elsewhere on social media – we’d love it if you wanted to follow us there too: Wander Mum (TwitterFacebook, YouTubeInstagram and Pinterest) and MummyTravels (TwitterFacebookInstagram and Pinterest)

– The City Tripping linky will go live every Tuesday morning until 23.55pm on Thursday and will alternate between MummyTravels and myself. We’ll be sharing our favourites every week too.

I've always loved to travel so when my two daughters came along, I didn't stop. Travelling as a family can have its ups and downs but I love showing my children the world and helping others navigate travelling with children in tow.

  1. Thank you! It was so lovely to see you – and I still can’t believe that’s only the third occasion. I love going along to Britmums anyway, but you’re right it was definitely a good way to boost my mood too after Friday.

  2. Great photo of you and Cathy, I bet you both had a brilliant night! I’m still reeling form Brexit, it’s all too sad, depressing and frightening to contemplate and the hatred and xenophobia that has come out of it is hideous. I hate to say it but my mood was lifted by “Brexit2” watching Iceland beat England in Nice last night, I was there in the fanzone and the mood was fun and upbeat watching David beat Goliath. Sorry England!

    1. Haha. Well, England deserved it… we played pretty badly! Glad you had a great night watching. All sorts of horrible things are coming out of Brexit but I have to keep reminding myself the xenophobia is surely in the minority. On a lighter note, it was really fab to catch up with Cathy!!

  3. Yes it lived u p to the hype for us – we went last summer and all of us loved it, if we lived closer we’d definitely be investing in a year pass. We loved the tree top walk and the tropical house. Your little girl is such a cutey btw – that hair!! #citytripping

    1. Aww thank you – the hair is crazy! I really want to do the tree top walk… glad to hear you loved it! think that annual pass needs to get bought.

  4. I couldn’t believe that the most of the people of the UK want to get out of the EU. I felt like you when I woke up the next morning after the vote. Hopefully it will not cause Scotland to split off the UK and further countries to pull out of the EU. Such a waste of time and effort.

    1. I hope not too…but Scotland looks like they will get a second independence referendum. Politics here is all up in the air at the mo…its a very unusual time in the uk.
