Home Improvements

They say the kitchen is the worst room in the house to refurbish. Well, I can confidently confirm, it is true. For the past six weeks we have been living in amongst boxes and bags of saucepans, cutlery and food with our fridge now residing in our lounge. Locating something as simple as a clean plate, bowl even a fork has become such a chore that yesterday I went a bought a whole stack of paper plates and cutlery. I know it’s not very environmentally friendly but, sorry planet, for the next couple of weeks it will have to do.

Since the builders basically moved in the second week of Jan we have done a pretty good job of making ourselves scarce and have been leading a bit of a gypsy lifestyle. Well, without the caravans, weddings, or bare knuckle fighting. Ok, so the only similarity is we have been moving around a lot.

For instance, after coming back from France at Christmas we saw in the New Year at a farm in Shropshire then came home for 2 weeks, then flew to Dubai, came back, went up to Leeds, came home, moved into a flat Cal’s parents rented when he got ill, now we are back home. Surrounded by the contents of our kitchen.

I have been really impressed at how Mrs T has adapted to her changing environments. She has still slept pretty well and not appeared to be too disrupted. However now we are home I can sense she is getting a bit fed up with being confined upstairs most of the time. Don’t blame her really. I’m getting cabin fever too. Thankfully, this week I have escaped with plenty of lunch plans- which isn’t proving very popular with my wallet.

Fair to say progress on the kitchen has been slow. It has been 7 weeks and the under floor heating has been laid (but not working) and floor is down BUT most of the units are not in. In fact the kitchen supplier has even brought some of the wrong kit arggggggh.

It is amazing how much you need a kitchen and a sink!! Currently using the bathroom one. Thankfully, we were very organised and froze a load of food Cal made but I’m not sure how much longer that is going to last. It is also quite hard to wean Mrs T without kitchen equipment!

Everyone KEEPS telling me, ‘it will be amazing when it is finished’. I know. I know. But WHEN??

Wander Mum

I've always loved to travel so when my two daughters came along, I didn't stop. Travelling as a family can have its ups and downs but I love showing my children the world and helping others navigate travelling with children in tow.
