How We Celebrated My Daughter’s Third Birthday

Three years ago a beautiful girl came into my life, changing it forever but enhancing it in more ways than I could ever imagine. Last weekend we celebrated her third birthday.

At three years old she is a proper little girl, my little girl. A happy, chatty, funny, energetic little girl, who can make me laugh, cry and get frustrated in the space of around 10 minutes. Someone I can have a proper conversation with and who delights in remarking upon everything going on around her (“that man’s got a cough”, “that lady’s painting a door”, “what are you doing?”). She can use the toilet, make her own decisions, put on her shoes and is fiercely independent most of the time. She can also boss me and her daddy around at times. Today I was told I “you’re a silly billy Mummy”)!

This week, she turned three and the same day she started pre-school. How very grown up! But lets get on with the party! It was back in May that she decided she would like a Minnie Mouse cake and requested it from her godmother, Emma, who in her spare time is a very talented cake maker. I set about getting some Minnie Mouse paraphernalia (from Party Pieces) and we had a small gathering with some friends and family.

She even did cupcakes
Lets just talk about the cakes a little… Emma knocked up a two tier Minnie Mouse Victoria sponge AND chocolate/Guinness cupcakes (don’t worry the alcohol burns off) with Minnie and Mickey Mouse ears. A big thank you! I know making you godmother was a good idea!

So, onto the party… we started by having games and a picnic in the park. The adults chatted and had a drink while the children, complete with Minnie and Mickey Mouse ears, ran around, played football and games and enjoyed the staple of any birthday – balloons! The space hopper was a big hit too.

I then organised a pass the parcel which went down well with the older children although there wasn’t a lot of interest from the younger children (under twos) who preferred to just run around the park. The picnic included some sandwiches and watermelon in the shape of Mickey Mouse (made using a cutter I got from Amazon).

Then it was time to cut the cake and the candles were blown out in one breath.

No party is complete without helium balloons and, of course, one escaping into the sky. She still thinks it’s up there and keeps asking if a helicopter is going to rescue it. Bless.

Mrs T had a fantastic time with her friends and family and I think the whole party was a success. She also got some fabulous presents too so thank you for everyone’s generosity. Happy Birthday Mrs T – love you lots – here’s to another fantastic year!

Wander Mum

I've always loved to travel so when my two daughters came along, I didn't stop. Travelling as a family can have its ups and downs but I love showing my children the world and helping others navigate travelling with children in tow.

    1. Thank you. It was really fun. That’s great you do that. Yes, I can imagine they tricky – I know that Minnie Mouse was not completed on the first try!

  1. What a lovely party, and congratulations to the big little girl 🙂 Three is such a lovely age isn’t, they are still very little and still your little baby almost, but are getting mroe and more independent and connect with you on a new level. Gorgeous cake too! 🙂 #pocolo
