Valentine’s Day Meal: Chez Bruce

Had a delicious meal at Chez Bruce in Wandsworth for Valentine’s Day- was a lovely meal. We’d only been to the Michelin-starred restaurant once before when we first got together (and Cal was no doubt trying to impress me). That was around 7 years when I used to live in the area.

Standards certainly have not slipped and the restaurant, without doubt, deserves its star. For those unfamiliar, it it is run by British chef Bruce Poole who is also behind La Trompette in Chiswick and The Glasshouse in Kew – both equally as impressive although this, his main restaurant, just has the edge.

Obviously our return there saw us with an extra member to our party. When we reserved the table, we told them we had a pram. Although they are ‘child-friendly’, it turns out they recently banned prams from the restaurant after somebody tripped over one. SO we could bring Mrs T but had to fold the pram bit up and either put her in a high chair or, as we did, leave her in the car seat on a chair.

Fortunately she was asleep for most of the meal. We probably timed it quite well (going during her lunchtime nap) as it is not really the place you want them to be crying or kicking off – the atmosphere is on the quiet side and the clientele are a bit older (not that they minded at all and the staff were great). However I think we were the only ones with a child there.

I had the squid with chorizo for starter followed by fillet of Brill was, well, brilliant – really meaty fish. Yum. My husband hates me taking pictures of food but this time I could use the blog as an excuse so feel obliged to add them. Know it is a bit sad but helps you get the idea. The price is not bad at all considering the high standard of food-£29 for three course. For an extra fiver they do an amazing cheese board – which Cal had. Mrs T was happy with some fancy bread.

Wander Mum

I've always loved to travel so when my two daughters came along, I didn't stop. Travelling as a family can have its ups and downs but I love showing my children the world and helping others navigate travelling with children in tow.
